Ponzi Schemes
An investment scheme that pays early investors with new money until it collapses.
Ponzi Schemes
A Ponzi scheme pays returns to earlier investors using money contributed by new investors, rather than through any genuine underlying trading or business activity. The arrangement can appear profitable for a long time, with investors receiving steady payouts that encourage them to reinvest or bring in family and friends, until the flow of new money slows and the scheme can no longer sustain the payments it has promised.
Warning signs include returns that are unusually steady regardless of market conditions, difficulty withdrawing the original capital even while returns are being paid, a strategy described as too complex to explain in detail, strong encouragement to recruit others into the scheme, and an absence of independent verification of the underlying assets or trading activity. A promoter who personally guarantees returns, or who resists straightforward questions about how profits are actually generated, should be treated with real caution.
Investigation, tracing, and full legal representation
When a Ponzi scheme collapses, speed matters, because assets connected to the scheme can move or disappear quickly. Our investigations team works to map the structure of the scheme, identify its operators and any connected entities, and trace where remaining funds and assets have gone.
Where operators or assets are located in other countries, which is common in these schemes, we coordinate with Interpol and local law enforcement to support the investigation and pursue recovery across borders. We assist with claims into any formal administration or insolvency process, file the case with the relevant authorities, and provide legal representation throughout, working to recover as much of our client's investment as possible.
